A look into CODA’s Self-Healing Investigation of Geopolymers:

Thermal Shocking Geopolymer Samples
Featured at left, Graduate Research Assistant Cameron Horan induces thermal shock on geopolymer samples using liquid nitrogen, a key part of work in CODA’s investigation into the self-healing properties of fly-ash based geopolymers.

After being submerged in -346°F, the samples readily draw moisture from the ambient atmosphere, causing ice crystals to form. In future trials, the samples will be allowed to self-heal, hopefully providing insight into the autogenous self-healing properties of geopolymers.
